Structured Literacy Intervention
Systematic, Explicit Literacy Instruction that reaches ALL struggling readers/writers/dyslexia
Effective reading instruction must be. . . .
SYSTEMATIC in sequence/flow and cumulative, building on previous concepts learned
EXPLICIT, direct teaching through multi-sensory techniques
DIAGNOSTIC and individualized by trained clinicians with in-depth knowledge of our language system
Requires extensive practice and repetition to master content and gain automaticity with reading and writing
I provide one-on-one instruction both in-person (at my Ann Arbor office), as well as online for Michigan residents.
My instruction is targeted, individualized and includes the 5 Core Components of Reading:
Phonological Awareness
Phonics
Vocabulary
Fluency
Reading comprehension
It is CRITICAL that all of these components are taught across the continuum of instruction from kindergarten through secondary levels. As the Literacy Processing Triangle illustrates, the connection between sounds (phonology), symbols/letters (orthography) and vocabulary meaning (semantics) must happen quickly and efficiently for successful reading and writing to occur. A breakdown can occur in any of these areas so identifying that breakdown and supporting those areas through systematic, individualized instruction is key to a child’s reading/writing success!
